It's old news now but an article on how the Wondergirls are about to become guests on Family Outing has opened up some not so healed wounds of mine.
A couple of months ago, SunMi ceased to be a part of the Wondergirls and was quickly replaced by HyeRim(sp? sorry I don't know this girl) who is reportedly able to communicate in four languages. Mhm, ready for the Wondergirls foray on the international stage aye JYP? Tsk.
Reports have stated that SunMi was unhappy during the Wondergirls' promotions in the States as she was feeling homesick - totally understandable as lets face it, she's still pretty young and the move has probably ripped apart any stability her idol status left her. Also, she seems to have wanted to continue her academic studies as being an idol forced both her and Sohee to have to quit High School which of course left them without a diploma.
Also understandable is JYP's decision to add another member to the group, which would give another one of his trainees a tremendous opportunity to hit big - this girl definitely hit the jackpot.
My problem is this....
First of all, I loved SunMi - she was nicknamed the 4d alien of the group making her weird and most times, hilarious. You may or may not know, but this is definitely my 'type' of girl grouper. Not the usual bubblegum, doesn't have a personality type which I hate. And now Sunmi is gone!
Therefore this huge change in the Wondergirls lineup stressed me out pretty bad.
Bad enough that I spent that night I found out sadly fangirling over miso (sunmi <3 style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 372px; height: 259px;" src="http://popseoul.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/hae.jpg" alt="" border="0">
I mean...
Is HyeRim going to try and bite SunYe's hand during a live interview out of boredom?
Is HyeRim going to squeal her lungs out whilst wading in a pool of trout?
Is HyeRim going to shameless hit on Sohee for fun just to get a rise out of her?
Is HyeRim going to request servings of spicy ricecakes during broadcasts?
No, she probably isn't.
And there's been a little bit of the blame game being played allover the place with some people saying JYP put too much pressure on the Wondergirls to fulfill his own American dreams, that he was glad for SunMi to go because HyeRim would be a useful addition because of her quadrulangu-skillz but I'm not really about that kind of thing. Real Wondergirls fans shouldn't be either, that's what I think anyway.
It should be about SunMi, and about sending happy thoughts to the girl who has to put her dreams on hold for whatever reason. She's hurting the most right now, no one has a right to willfully add to that by creating drama.
I miss SunMi. I really do. She brought a lot of character to the Wondergirls and that's not something that every trainee has. She didn't speak four languages but she was Wondergirls all the way and no matter how hard someone else might try, SunMi's shoes will probably be impossible to fill.
So here's to you SUNMI - My very first favourite Wondergirl, I wish you the Absolute Best for the future :)
